Price increases at private universities are putting a strain on students' educational lives.

Price increases at private universities are putting a strain on students' educational lives.

Levent Küçük, President of the Consumers Association (TÜDER), released a statement regarding the economic hardships faced by university students. Küçük noted that there are factors that make higher education more expensive for students, saying, "We are receiving complaints about exorbitant increases in private dormitory and private university fees. These exorbitant price increases at private universities are also impacting students' academic lives, with some students forced to suspend their education."

Küçük stated that some foundation universities are promoting themselves as if they were commercial enterprises and that prices in these institutions have reached astronomical levels, adding that some students have suspended their education due to the increase in costs and that they do not accept this situation.

Küçük, reminding that the Ministry of National Education has a regulation regarding private schools, stated that while these regulations set limits on how tuition increases can be determined for private middle and high schools, there are no such limits for university-level private schools. He emphasized that tuition fees at universities are determined by the institutions themselves.

Küçük stated that foundation universities are expected to prioritize education and set reasonable prices. He also stated that the Council of Higher Education should limit price increases to prevent market chaos.

Finally, Küçük stated that the inflation and price increase rates in the country are clear and said that private universities should set reasonable prices by taking these conditions into account.
