A newborn baby was found in the toilet by a cleaning staff in the disabled toilet at Antalya Airport on October 13, 2024. Upon examination, it was determined that the baby was abandoned by Russian citizen Ekaterina Burnazkina (29) 12 minutes before she was found.
According to the news in DHA, it was determined that Ekaterina Burnazkina, who abandoned the baby, quickly went to the passport counters with her mother Elena Burnazkina and completed the exit procedures from the country.
The mother and daughter, who were preparing to go to Moscow, were caught by teams from the Antalya Police Department Airport Branch Directorate. The newborn baby was also sent to the hospital after the intervention of the medical teams. The baby's mother was also taken to another hospital and treated.
After the procedures at the police station, Elena Burnazkina was sent to the courthouse and arrested and taken to prison. Ekaterina Burnazkina was also arrested after her treatment was completed. Elena Burnazkina was released on probation at the first hearing.
The trial of the Russian mother and daughter continued at the Antalya Third High Criminal Court. Ekaterina Burnazkina repeated her previous statements, saying she was pregnant and did not realize she had given birth. The prosecutor noted that the defendant's failure to clamp the umbilical cord of the newborn baby after giving birth could have affected its vital functions.
The prosecutor noted that it was determined that the defendant, who left the newborn baby, whose defense system was extremely weak, in the toilet bowl with the worst hygiene conditions, did the act knowingly and willingly. In the prosecutor's opinion, it was requested that the defendant Elena Burnazkina be acquitted and that the defendant Ekaterina Burnazkina, who left her baby in the toilet bowl after giving birth, be punished for the crime of "attempted qualified murder."
15 YEARS IN PRISON SENTENCEThe court sentenced the defendant Ekaterina Burnazkina to 15 years in prison for "attempted premeditated murder." The defendant's mother, Elena Burnazkina, was acquitted. On the other hand, it was learned that the baby was under state protection.
