1279 BC - In Ancient Egypt, Ramses II, a 19th Dynasty pharaoh, came to power.
1799 - After the defeat at Acre, Napoleon abandoned the battlefield to the forces of Cezzar Ahmed Pasha.
1859 - The clock of Big Ben, the famous clock tower in London, began to work for the first time.
