Türkiye's 2026 Oscar nominees have been announced

Following its evaluation, the Turkish Oscar Selection Committee selected Murat Fıratoğlu's "One of the Days Hemme Died" from among 14 productions this year to compete in the "Best International Film" category at the 98th Academy Awards.

The film premiered in the "Horizons" (Orizzonti) section of the 81st Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Prize. In Türkiye, it was selected as Best Film at the Adana Golden Boll Film Festival and was released digitally on May 23, 2025.

The people of Siverek also took part

The film follows Eyüp, who returns to his hometown of Siverek after failing to find work in Izmir, as he takes a job drying tomatoes. The events unfold as Eyüp's anger toward his employer, Hemme, after not being paid, illustrates the class tensions plaguing the countryside.

Murat Fıratoğlu, the film's writer and director, also stars in the lead role. The cast includes Salih Taşçı, Sefer Fıratoğlu, Güneş Sayın, and Ali Barkın, along with the director's relatives and the people of Siverek.

The 98th Academy Awards ceremony will be held on March 15, 2026. The film will go through the Academy's elimination criteria to be included in the Oscar nomination list.
