Decision to increase bread prices before Ramadan

Prices of everything from needle to thread continue to increase. In Konya, known as the granary, bread prices increased again before Ramadan. Following the decision to increase the price, the price of 200 grams of bread, which was sold for 9 liras in the city, increased to 11 liras.
PRICE OF RAMADAN PIDE HAS ALSO BEEN ANNOUNCEDThe price of 300 grams of Ramadan pita, which was 15 lira in 2024, increased to 18 lira in the city.
COSTS ARE JUSTIFIEDKonya Bakers Chamber President Vedat Honca cited increased input costs as the reason for the increase. Honca made the following statement in his written statement:
*Due to the increase in input costs for bread due to the increase in the minimum wage, the meeting of the Bread Cost Determination Commission in order to update the price of bread at the beginning of the year was unfortunately held late on January 24, 2025. After the meeting, it was unanimously deemed appropriate to sell 200 grams of bread for 11.00 TL.
*Again, due to the extension of the price to be applied as per the procedures, together with the approaching month of Ramadan, with the aim of reflecting the updated price to be applied on pide and its varieties, we have not applied a new price specific to the month of Ramadan before, and the bakeries have found it appropriate to sell 200 grams of bread for 9.00 TL and 300 grams of pide for 18.00 TL without making a new price (increase) by ensuring the continuity of the prices previously taken on July 11, 2024 during the month of Ramadan.
*The updated price of 200 grams of baked bread was found appropriate to be sold for 11.00 TL after the Ramadan Feast by the price determination committee. We would like to thank our bakers for their sensitive behavior.
*We consider it our duty to inform our people about the blessed month of Ramadan, which is a month of care for the poor and the needy, and where all kinds of waste should be avoided. We wish you a blessed holiday and a blessed month full of prayers.
THE RATE OF INCREASE MADE IN 8 MONTHS IS 36 PERCENTIn June 2024, the price of bread was also increased in the city, and the price of 200 grams of bread, which was 7 lira, increased to 9 lira. With the latest increase, the price of bread has increased by 36 percent in the last 8 months.
