3 Questions That Reveal a Narcissist: Researchers Warn

Narcissists use many tactics to manipulate those around them. Making themselves seem very motivated and competent is one of them. Therefore, understanding the true personality of narcissists during hiring or similar processes is not as difficult as it seems.

Initially starting with 19 questions, the team narrowed the questions down to 3 after four rounds of testing. Although most of the participants were university students, they were working full-time and taking career planning courses, which strengthens the meaning of the research in a professional context.

Experts warned that narcissistic tendencies in a person can be understood by answering the following 3 questions:
- Are you a natural leader or did you have to learn leadership? Explain your leadership style with an example.
- In a project that requires unanimity in the team, you do not find the plan accepted by the majority to be correct. How do you proceed at this point?
- In a group where you were the leader, a team member questioned your decision, but at the end of the process, your decision proved to be functional. How would you react in this situation?

The researchers evaluated the answers to the third question as follows: Low narcissistic tendency: Cares about the other party's feelings, prioritizes respect and open communication. High narcissistic tendency: Always argues that he is right, feels uncomfortable being questioned. As the research shows, this short test, consisting of only three questions, provides relatively reliable results and offers ideal methods for rapid screening. The researchers emphasize that this is not a diagnostic tool, but a preliminary screening method.

Kevin Eschlemann argues that these questions can be effective in recognizing a narcissist not only in job interviews but also in daily life. Although the answers do not provide definitive results, they can reveal remarkable clues about the person's mental health.
