A PKK terrorist group destroyed its weapons in the Iraqi city of Sulaymaniyah as part of a process launched with the goal of a Terror-Free Turkey. The PKK group gathered in a cave within the Surdaş district of Sulaymaniyah, then emerged with their weapons and advanced to the area where the group was located.
A group of 30 PKK members, including 15 women, destroyed their weapons by throwing them into a large, flaming cauldron. A leader of the organization read a message in Turkish and Kurdish at the scene.
The ceremony was attended by National Intelligence Organization officials, Iraqi officials, Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government officials and security forces, DEM Party members, participants from several civil society organizations, and members of the media. A delegation including Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chairs Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar and Keskin Bayındır, Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) Co-Spokespersons Meral Danış Beştaş and Ali Kenanoğlu, Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party ( DEM Party ) Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan, Ahmet Türk , and DEM Party İmralı Delegation member Mithat Sancar attended the ceremony.
Journalist İsmail Küçükkaya, appearing on Halk TV's live broadcast, revealed a key detail about Ahmet Türk, who was attending the ceremony. Küçükkaya stated, "Ahmet Türk, I've been banned from traveling abroad for eight years, but my ban was lifted three days ago so I could attend this ceremony."
