Ceremony in Taksim on the 51st anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation

The 51st anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation, which took place on July 20, 1974, was celebrated with a ceremony held at the Republic Monument in Taksim. Attendees included TRNC Consul General in Istanbul Erek Çağatay, Istanbul Deputy Governor Mehmet Sülün, 3rd Corps Chief of Staff Brigadier General Birol Arslan, veterans of the Cyprus Operation, and members of civil society organizations (NGOs). The ceremony, which began after the TRNC Consulate General in Istanbul, NGOs, and associations laid a wreath at the Republic Monument, followed by a moment of silence in memory of the martyrs and veterans, and the singing of the National Anthem. Following this, TRNC Consul General in Istanbul Erek Çağatay delivered a speech.
TRNC Consul General in Istanbul Erek Çağatay stated, "The 51st anniversary of the Peace Operation of July 20, 1974, which was carried out by the heroic Turkish Cypriot mujahideen, fighting shoulder to shoulder with the Turkish Armed Forces at the expense of their lives and blood, is being celebrated this year, as it is every year, with great enthusiasm and pride. July 20 is the turning point in the coming of peace to Cyprus, the liberation of the Turkish Cypriot people, and our struggle for existence. The significance of this meaningful day is undoubtedly immense for us. From the very beginning, the Greek Cypriots saw the Republic of Cyprus, established in 1960, as a stepping stone to achieving their dreams. For this reason, the partnership Republic established in 1960 lasted only three years, and the Turkish Cypriots were eliminated by force of arms from all organs of the republic, of which they were equal partners, in 1963. The Greek Cypriots began their systematic and comprehensive attacks against the Turkish Cypriots in December 1963, and during these dark years, which continued until July 20, 1974, The Turkish Cypriot people resisted with the full support of the Republic of Turkey and its people and continued their struggle in unity and solidarity. Following the coup attempt by Greece on the island on July 15, 1974, Motherland Turkey, relying on its guarantor rights stemming from international agreements, launched the Peace Operation to save the Turkish Cypriot people from massacre. As the Turkish Cypriot side, including in the current process, we continue to strongly support the achievement of a just, comprehensive, and comprehensive settlement on the island with the support of Türkiye. However, it is impossible for the Turkish Cypriot people to forget the painful experiences of 1963-1974 and do not want to experience the same tragedies again. In this context, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, with the strong support of the Motherland Republic of Turkey, has registered its thesis with the United Nations and declared to the entire world that a just and sustainable agreement can be reached on the basis of a basis that guarantees the sovereign equality and equal international status of the two states in Cyprus.
