Meteorologist Adil Tek: Temperatures will drop starting tomorrow, rain is expected

"Temperatures in Istanbul and elsewhere will be a little closer to our summer and seasonal norms. Along with this cool weather, there will be rain in the eastern Marmara region. There's a chance of light rain in Istanbul. This cool weather will linger for two or three days tomorrow," he said.
'TEMPERATURES IN ISTANBUL ARE OVER 40 DEGREES'Kandilli Observatory Meteorology Laboratory Engineer Adil Tek evaluated the meteorological conditions and made statements about the weather expected throughout the week. Tek said, "As of today, these temperatures are reaching their highest levels. The flow over North Africa continues, and with that flow, the northeasterly wind in Istanbul has also ceased. The wind is currently shifting southerly, and it looks like Istanbul will be much warmer today than yesterday. Currently, the temperature measured in Sancaktepe, Istanbul, is approaching 36 degrees. There is a possibility that these temperatures will rise to 38-39 degrees in the coming hours. It seems likely that temperatures in Istanbul will approach 40 degrees today. This heat wave, of course, is affecting the entire Marmara region, including Istanbul, and even the Black Sea region. It will continue today. Of course, we can easily say that temperatures in our southern provinces have exceeded 40 degrees, and in Izmir, there are places that will approach or exceed 40 degrees today. There are also rising temperatures in the Mediterranean, but humidity levels are also rising. Yesterday, we reached 43 degrees in Southeastern Anatolia, which would have opened the floodgates for Gaziantep. Today, it is 40 degrees." "There's a possibility of temperatures reaching 45 degrees and above. This could be record highs for those regions. For Southeastern Anatolia, in other words for our country, the temperatures could reach these levels today," he said.
'THERE IS A COOL WEATHER COMING FROM THE LEVEL STARTING TOMORROW'Adil Tek said, "Starting tomorrow, there's a cool breeze coming from the north. It will primarily affect the Marmara region. Along with Istanbul, temperatures will be a little closer to our summer and seasonal norms. This cool air is bringing precipitation east of the Marmara region. It looked like it would bring rain to the western Black Sea region again. There's a slight chance of rain in Istanbul. This cool air will linger for two or three days tomorrow. It's rapidly moving eastward again, and it looks like it will."
'TEMPERATURES WILL INCREASE AFTER JULY 15'Tek said, "This kind of weather continues until the 15th. In other words, it's slightly lowered to seasonal norms in the north. In the southern regions, temperatures remain high, but we'll see this rain for three or four days after the 15th. However, a heat wave is expected to last into the final months of July. It looks like we'll be closing out July somehow. Of course, rainfall has also been well below average."
"WE ARE GOING THROUGH A VERY DRY PERIOD"Tek said, "We're going through a very dry period. It's very possible we'll see this characteristic again in the coming years. It appears that the heat caused by climate change is actually felt more intensely, and heat waves are also appearing again in August. Now, I want to make a comparison. Last year was the hottest year globally. In other words, it reached its peak. This year doesn't seem to come close to 2024 globally, but our region was affected by those global temperatures last year and saw high temperatures. This year, when we look at the highest temperatures in our country, or rather, the hottest year in terms of average temperatures, is likely to be the highest. Of course, there's still time for the year to end, but the heat waves we've experienced so far point to this."
'TEMPERATURES WILL FALL FROM TOMORROW'Adil Tek said, "Starting tomorrow, temperatures in Istanbul, in particular, will drop slightly. Istanbul will feel a bit more comfortable, as nighttime temperatures also drop. Istanbulites will be a bit more relaxed overnight. There's also a chance of light rain tomorrow. After the 15th, temperatures here will remain at seasonal normals for three or four days, but high temperatures will again await us in the final months of July."
'LAST YEAR WAS A VERY HOT YEAR GLOBALLY, WE WILL CONTINUE TO SEE ITS EFFECTS THIS YEAR'Tek said, "This summer, like last year, was a globally hot year, and our country and Istanbul were affected by it. Record-breaking temperatures were also among the hottest years, and it looked like this year would be below last year's, but the recent heat waves we've experienced indicate that these temperatures will exceed 2024 nationally. We've experienced similar heat waves in previous years. This heat wave, meaning the lake, has been seen before. The number of heat waves has started to increase in recent years. So, while not record-breaking heat, these heat waves have become very common. They're not particularly hot, but because the temperature has increased, we feel like we've brought ourselves many more very hot summers."
Filiz Babatemel, who came to the beach after feeling overwhelmed by the heat, said, "I've been an Istanbulite for three generations, and I've never seen such heat. Air conditioning is already harmful, but we have to use it. We're in a terrible situation." Manolya Kanal said, "As you said, the weather is so hot, I'm suffocating even just coming to work. Yes, Istanbul is normally hot, but yesterday, today, and even Monday, the weather was terrible. The sun is scorching. In other words, it burns you right where you stand."
