The unemployment rate stood at 8 percent in July

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced the Labor Force Statistics for July. According to the Household Labor Force Survey, the number of unemployed people aged 15 and over decreased by 164,000 in July 2025 compared to the previous month, reaching 2,828,000. The unemployment rate decreased by 0.4 percentage points to 8.0 percent. The unemployment rate was estimated at 6.5 percent for men and 10.9 percent for women.
The seasonally adjusted employment rate was 49.1 percentThe number of employed people increased by 18,000 in July 2025 compared to the previous month, reaching 32,582,000, while the employment rate remained at 49.1 percent. This rate was 66.1 percent for men and 32.4 percent for women.
The seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate was 53.3 percent.In July 2025, the labor force decreased by 146,000 people compared to the previous month, reaching 35,410,000, while the labor force participation rate decreased by 0.3 percentage points to 53.3 percent. While the labor force participation rate was 70.6 percent for men, it was 36.4 percent for women.
The youth unemployment rate among those aged 15-24 decreased by 0.9 percentage points compared to the previous month, reaching 15.0 percent. In this age group, the unemployment rate was estimated at 11.3 percent for men and 21.7 percent for women.
The average weekly actual working hours, adjusted for seasonally and calendar effects, was 42.6 hours.The average weekly actual working hours of those employed during the reference period, adjusted for seasonally and calendar effects, increased by 1.2 hours in July 2025 compared to the previous month, reaching 42.6 hours.
The seasonally adjusted idle labor rate was 29.6 percent.The inactive labor force rate, consisting of time-related underemployment, potential labor force, and unemployed, decreased by 3.1 percentage points compared to the previous month, reaching 29.6 percent in July 2025. The combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployed was 19.1 percent, while the combined rate of unemployed and potential labor force was estimated at 19.9 percent.
