Alternative to GPS: Quantum technology era begins in airborne positioning

Airbus's Acubed unit, a leading European technology company, and its tech startup SandboxAQ developed this innovative system, called "MagNav." MagNav uses the aircraft's ground magnetic field to provide precise location determination without requiring GPS signals. This allows aircraft to be guided safely even when GPS is unavailable or its signal is blocked.
In tests, MagNav quantum sensors provided highly accurate location data for 150 hours, meeting FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) standards. This is considered a significant step forward for the future of aviation navigation.
Quantum technology's ability to provide a secure backup for GPS against signal loss or malicious attacks is a major innovation not only in aviation but also for maritime, military operations, and critical infrastructure. Experts predict that quantum-based navigation systems will become standard in the coming years, pushing GPS's limits.
