Cyber warfare era: UK report alarming

In the annual assessment report of the UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), changes in cyber attacks in the September 2024-September 2025 period were analyzed.
According to the report, 429 cyberattacks were encountered during this period. Eighteen of these attacks were categorized as "very significant," meaning they could cause serious disruptions to essential services. The number of "very significant" cyberattacks in the country increased by 50 percent year-over-year.
The number of "nationally significant" cyberattacks in the country increased from 89 to 204 in the last year.
"LINKED TO STATE-SUPPORTED ACTORS"
The NCSC reported that an average of four "nationally significant" cyberattacks occur each week and recommended that businesses take concrete steps to protect themselves from cyberattacks.
The majority of attacks were found to be linked to "state-sponsored actors or highly skilled criminal groups."
"OUR VULNERABILITY IS INCREASING AT AN ANXIOUS RATE"
NCSC Chief Executive Richard Horne, commenting on the findings, stated that cybersecurity is a crucial issue for business survival and national resilience. He said: "More than half of the cyberattacks handled by the NCSC were rated as nationally significant, and a 50 percent increase in attacks in the 'very significant' category compared to last year demonstrates that our collective vulnerability to serious impacts is increasing at an alarming rate."
Horne noted that the most effective way to defend against such attacks is for organizations to make themselves as difficult a target as possible, pointing out that the future of their companies depends on the steps they take today.
Retail brand Marks & Spencer, supermarket chain Co-op Group and Jaguar Land Rover were also among the companies that suffered widespread service disruptions due to cyberattacks.
