Good news for users! A battery life-enhancing feature is coming to Windows 11

Battery life remains a major concern, especially for laptop users. Microsoft is apparently aiming to address this issue through software. The company has begun testing a new feature that appears to make Windows 11 users' daily computing experience more efficient: "Adaptive Energy Saving."
ADAPTIVE ENERGY SAVING FEATURE COMING TO WINDOWS 11"Adaptive Energy Saving" (some call it adaptive energy saving mode) is a new Windows 11 feature that Microsoft is testing that adaptively activates energy saving mode based on your PC's current usage. This feature can automatically activate battery saving mode based on your PC usage, regardless of your battery level.
Microsoft uses the following statements in its blog post announcing the feature:
"Adaptive energy saving is an optional feature that automatically enables and disables energy saving without changing the screen brightness based on the device's power state and current system load."
Adaptive activation of power saving mode can extend the battery life of the laptop when only low-processing-demanding tasks are performed.
HOW DOES IT WORK?Microsoft hasn't gone into technical details about how this feature works, but it will likely measure your CPU and GPU usage to determine whether you need the extra power for the task at hand. If not, power-saving mode will activate.
If you're just emailing or browsing the web, adaptive power saving mode will likely kick in to save battery. On the other hand, if you're rendering video or playing games, this mode will likely be disabled for maximum performance.
Notably, adaptive energy saving mode won't change the screen brightness. This may be intended to make the feature as unnoticeable as possible, as constantly changing screen brightness could be distracting for users. However, the icon in the taskbar will change to indicate that energy saving mode is active.
However, adaptive energy saving only applies to devices with batteries, so desktop computers won't be able to take advantage of this automatic mode.
IT WILL BE OPTIONALThis new adaptive energy saving mode is also completely optional. It won't be enabled by default, so if you want to use it, you'll need to go to "Settings" and enable it manually. Otherwise, the system will continue to operate in the standard energy saving mode.
HOW TO USE ADAPTIVE ENERGY SAVING MODE IN WINDOWS 11?The Windows 11 adaptive energy saving feature is currently being tested only with Canary Channel users in the Windows Insider program. This feature may or may not make it into the final release based on user feedback. Microsoft has tested many features in the Insider Program but not released them. This one may or may not make it into the final release.
This new feature began rolling out with Windows 11 Canary Channel preview build 27898 last week. Due to Microsoft's A/B testing system, some users may not see this feature immediately.
Energy saving settings in Windows 11 can be managed from Settings > System > Power & battery.
