Microsoft has disabled streaming movies online

Microsoft has decided to shut down its Film & TV app, a long-time favorite among Windows and Xbox users. The company announced that it will no longer be able to purchase or rent new movies or TV series through the app. This decision was announced in a brief statement on the company's support page.
Users will still be able to access previously purchased content, but new content will no longer be available. Furthermore, this content cannot be transferred across platforms. Only users in the US can sync select content across digital stores through the Movies Anywhere service. This service is not available in Türkiye.
He was about to be forgottenFirst released in 2012 under the name "Xbox Video," the app was part of Microsoft's broader vision for digital entertainment. Aiming to compete with rivals like Apple iTunes and Amazon Prime Video, the company had attracted attention, particularly during the Xbox One era, for its strategy of combining entertainment with gaming.
However, over time, the app faded into the background, losing market share to other major competitors. Changing user habits and the rise of new digital platforms also shaped the fate of the Film & TV app.
MANY APPLICATIONS ARE BEING UNPLUGGEDThe discontinuation of the Film & TV app is part of Microsoft's recent streamlining strategy. The company has previously made similar decisions regarding Windows' built-in apps like Mail, Calendar, and Maps.
These developments signal a significant shift in Microsoft's strategic direction regarding embedded services. They signal that it will now develop more diverse, and perhaps more integrated, solutions for digital content.
