No way to avoid exorbitant prices: Strict inspections ahead of Ramadan

In Edirne , the Provincial Directorate of Trade teams increased their price tag list inspections before the upcoming month of Ramadan. After Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat announced that all basic sectors, especially food, were being closely monitored before the month of Ramadan, the teams took action and are keeping a close eye on those who apply exorbitant prices and hoarders. Shortly before the start of the month of Ramadan, the teams conducted exorbitant price and tag inspections on basic food and necessities, especially in local and national markets, in all districts of the city.
In these inspections, emphasis is placed on controls on basic food items such as flour, bread, oil, milk and dairy products, eggs, red and white meat, and legumes, which have an important place in consumers' Ramadan tables.
The teams, who conducted inspections primarily in businesses selling dry food products, first compared shelf and case prices, examined invoices and checked weight.
Price list checks and weight inspections were also carried out in businesses providing food and beverage services.
Action was taken to impose administrative fines on businesses that did not have price tags and lists and those in violation.
In the inspections carried out in the city center and districts in February and still ongoing, 939 products were examined in 71 workplaces and administrative action was taken regarding non-compliance with 518 products.
It was stated that inspections will continue to increase throughout the month of Ramadan.
Tradesmen stated that they were pleased with the inspections and that exorbitant prices could be prevented with more frequent inspections.
