Disney’s Wild Plans for Its Own Residential Community Include the ‘Incredibles 2’ House

Disney’s Wild Plans for Its Own Residential Community Include the ‘Incredibles 2’ House

It’s been a while since we heard much from Disney’s “Storyliving” initiative, where the House of Mouse decided that managing your theme park stay was no longer enough and now needed to offer the chance to manage the rest of your life with an entire Disney-operated community. It turns out, in that time they’ve been busy actually building said community with a lavish piece of Incredibles architecture at its core.

Entertainment Weekly has released the first look inside Cotino, one of two neighborhoods Disney is planning to open up as residential communities. Located in Rancho Mirage, California, Cotino will be the first of these managed neighborhoods—a 618-acre lot replete with nearly 2000 housing units, amenities like restaurants and shopping centers, and more, including areas for non-residents to visit and stay—while the second, Asteria, will open at some point in North Carolina.

Developed by the same branches of Disney that help design additions and tweaks to Disneyland and Disney World, it’s no surprise then that these neighborhoods will include lavish recreations of film locations alongside all the things you actually need, and Cotino’s addition is a suitably-regionally-inspired choice: a massive replica of the house the Parr family is moved into in the opening sequences of The Incredibles 2.

Inspired by mid-century modern design and filled with details from the film itself, the Parr House will not actually be one of the homes you can move into should you decide the prospect of Disney being your landlord is something you want. Instead, it will serve as the hub of Cotino’s “voluntary Artisan Club membership organization,” according to EW, which will provide member-residents with “special services and amenities, including a restaurant, pool, pickleball and tennis courts, and waterfront bar and activity area, as well as meals inspired by Disney tales, lessons with Disney artists, and more.”

The house will overlook Cotino’s own bay and beachfront area, which will offer even further dining and commercial opportunities to residents and guests, and is the forefront of Disney’s plans to integrate theme-park-like narrative elements into, well… running an actual neighborhood. It’s not quite a Tesla town, but it’s getting there, no matter how many movie houses you put in it.

What remains unknown, beyond Cotino’s plans to open up in phases across next year, is just how you can apply to live there—and just how much it’s going to cost. When Disney’s raising the prices of everything from streaming services to theme park tickets, what’s it going to be like when rent’s due?
