But even without the catchy name, the apple cider esthetic contains many aspects that are just plain autumn appropriate. Consider it a fun repackaging of the things that make this time of year so delicious.

“At its core, the apple cider esthetic is about creating a home that embodies comfort and seasonal delight,” says the Better Homes & Gardens website. “It’s a reminder to slow down and enjoy simple pleasures.”

The Country Living website notes that the apple cider esthetic shares elements with the cabincore and cottagecore esthetics. It winks at Anne of Green Gables and Little Women and, yes, that most autumn of autumn TV shows — Gilmore Girls.

Here are some ways to bring the apple cider esthetic into your home:

1. Warm colours. An easy guideline is to draw on the colours of seasonal foods. Think of hot chocolate, pumpkin pie and squash in all its forms. Red will evoke the feel you’re going for as well. “The color’s warmer-spectrum counterparts — including ginger, cinnamon, ochre, and mulberry — also round out the scheme,” says Country Living.

2. Rich textures. “Wood, linen, and wool are essential to this style,” says Better Homes & Gardens. “A wooden dining table with a slightly worn finish, a chunky knit throw on the couch, or a linen curtain swaying in the autumn breeze all create layers of texture that feel lived-in yet polished.”

3. Plaid and gingham. Just as these patterns are ubiquitous in autumnal clothing, they signal the spirit of the season in the home. Consider incorporating them in flannel sheets, upholstery, wallpaper, sofa throws or cushions.

4. Rustic details. “Whether it’s a skirted sink or a ruffled pillow, a little flounce lends an element of surprise and whimsy to a the traditional cabin esthetic — especially when intermixed with more primitive or rough-hewn touches,” says Country Living.

5. The extras. Create a warm glow with candles. Boil cinnamon sticks, orange peels, cloves or star anise for a fall-forward aroma. Use a basket of apples or small pumpkins as a centrepiece. And don’t forget to make the space feel uniquely you. Maybe you have a ceramic figure that used to be your grandma’s or an old photo taken at a corn maze that you can display.
