Human remains found near Caledonia linked to Simcoe homicide: OPP

A homicide investigation by Ontario Provincial Police in Simcoe has led to the discovery of human remains in neighbouring Haldimand County, police said.
Norfolk County OPP say the remains were found around 6 p.m. Thursday in a wooded area off Hwy. 6, south of Stirling Street, just past the western edge of Caledonia.
While a post-mortem exam is being held Friday to confirm the identity and cause of death, police say they believe it's linked to an investigation in Simcoe, which saw one man charged with the murder of his mother.
It was around 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 5 when provincial police say a 9-1-1 call at a home on Head Street South led them to find the body of a 71-year-old woman.
On Oct. 10, police said officers had searched a home on Stanley Street in Simcoe, and that investigators were concerned for the well-being of a second person, Robert Sykes, 49, of Simcoe.
Sykes was unaccounted for, and had been last seen on Head Street South on Oct. 4, they said.
Police later identified the deceased as Barbara Morgan of Simcoe, and said a post-mortem examination determined she had died as a result of a homicide.
Morgan's 45-year-old son, also of Simcoe, was arrested on Oct. 10, and charged with second-degree murder in her death.
The accused made a court appearance on Friday, and will reappear on Oct. 21.
In an update Thursday, police appear to suggest the remains may have been left sometime between 10:30 p.m. and 12 a.m. on Oct. 5, the same day Morgan's body was found.
Police are asking residents or anyone who may have been in the area at that time to contact police if they observed suspicious activity, or captured something on dash cam or surveillance video.
"Residents in the area can expect to see a police presence as the investigation continues," police said.
