Loved ones remember Strathroy father, 27, who died in stabbing

Family and friends are remembering a man they call a "devoted father" after he was killed in a stabbing in Strathroy, Ont. on Friday afternoon.

Strathroy-Caradoc police were called to a medical emergency on Ashby Crescent around 5 p.m. When officers arrived to the residential neighbourhood, they found a man with apparent stab wounds outside a home.

Despite life-saving efforts from first responders, the victim, identified as Endy Moniz, 27, of Strathroy, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"All I can really say about him as a person [is he] was a hard working, devoted father [who] always carried a smile and made jokes to lighten the mood," said Travis Datema, who worked with Moniz at Cuddy Farms in Strathroy.

Outside of his day job, Moniz also operated his own landscaping company called Moniz Lawn Care and Snow Removal.

Following an early investigation, police arrested and charged another 27-year-old man from Strathroy with first-degree murder. He remains in custody.

Strathroy-Caradoc police are leading the investigation with help from the Ontario Provincial Police's Criminal Investigation Branch, Sarnia police, the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario's Forensic Pathology Service.

Investigators say there is no threat to public safety, but the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact Strathroy-Caradoc police at 519-245-1250 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
