An SUV driver is in police custody after the vehicle drove into a crowd at a street festival in Vancouver on Saturday evening. The incident took place just after 8pm (local time) near East 41st Avenue and Fraser Street, where the Lapu Lapu Day Block Party was held.Police confirmed that multiple people were killed and several others injured in the attack. Videos from the scene show the black SUV with a crushed front hood and deployed airbags on the driver’s side. Images of the incident depict dozens of injured individuals receiving care from first responders and bystanders.

Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim condemned the attack, confirming there were "a number of fatalities" and multiple injuries. "I am shocked and deeply saddened by the horrific incident at today’s Lapu Lapu Day event. Our thoughts are with all those affected and with Vancouver’s Filipino community during this incredibly difficult time," he said.City Councillor Rebecca Bligh also confirmed the incident, stating that the SUV drove into the crowd, resulting in multiple deaths. "Horrific tragedy at Vancouver’s Lapu Lapu Festival: a driver of an SUV has driven into crowds, leaving multiple dead. Our city is in shock," Bligh wrote on X.Lapu Lapu Day is one of the largest celebrations of Filipino culture, and this year marked its second celebration in Vancouver. The incident occurred just days before Canada's federal elections. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the attack.
