A woman has been arrested after a man was stabbed outside a pub. The attack happened outside the Black Bull pub in Penwortham, Lancashire, after 5pm on Saturday, said police.

Police responded swiftly to an emergency where a man in his 50s was discovered with multiple stab wounds. He was immediately taken to hospital, and authorities have confirmed that his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

At the scene, officers arrested a woman, also in her 50s, who is now in custody. A knife was recovered as part of the investigation, which is ongoing as police work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: “A woman in her 50s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of Section 18 wounding and is in custody. A knife has been recovered.

“We know this will have caused concern in the area and we want to reassure you that we were quickly on scene and swiftly made an arrest.

"We are not looking for anyone else and we do not believe there is any ongoing threat."
