'Binge-worthy' crime series first aired in 2018 becomes huge hit with Netflix fans

Netflix subscribers have unearthed a hidden gem with the 2018 crime thriller Collateral, originally broadcast on BBC Two, now captivating an entirely new audience.
The four-part miniseries stars Carey Mulligan in a riveting lead role as Detective Inspector Kip Glaspie, who delves into the complex layers of a case that starts off with the puzzling murder of a pizza delivery man in London. As DI Glaspie digs deeper into the trail of peculiar coincidences, she uncovers a dark conspiracy tied to the British military.
Collateral, unfolding amidst the backdrop of London, boasts a stellar cast including John Simm, Billie Piper and Ben Miles. Despite critical acclaim and an awards nod for Billie Piper, the series initially missed wide-scale attention from viewers.
Since dropping on Netflix however, the drama has been gaining traction with more people tuning in every day. Fans on Reddit are quick to recommend Collateral, especially lauding Carey Mulligan's exceptional portrayal of the central character.
One user gushed, "Another binge-worth British short murder mystery. Carey Mulligan at her best and all the crews! " Another added their voice, commenting: "I really liked her performance. I would definitely watch multiple seasons with that character."
Praise continued with comments like, "This was pretty good. Wife and I binged it and walked away happy," and another who echoed the sentiment: "I really enjoyed this one. Carey Mulligan is so good in this."
The plot summary reveals: "When a pizza delivery driver is shot down in South London, Detective Inspector Kip Glaspie is left in charge of the investigation and refuses to accept the murder as just a random act of violence. As she investigates, she soon finds herself being drawn into the darker side of underworld London.
"Simultaneously, politician David Mars becomes embroiled in the events due to his tumultuous relationship with his unpredictable ex, Karen, and a vicar struggles to conceal her affair with the only witness to the shooting. Disparate worlds collide and become entangled as the investigation develops."
Actress Carey was expecting during the filming of Collateral, and has previously commended writer David Hare and director SJ Clarkson for not making her pregnancy a significant part of her character, reports Surrey Live.
During a QandA at the time, she expressed: "Being pregnant had to become part of the story, and what I loved about it was that there was no, 'oh goodness me' or 'Oh he/she/ just kicked'. No pregnant acting was allowed, and no crying, which was a revelation. So she doesn't cry. She's a working woman, who's working through her pregnancy."
