If you're lucky enough to have seen Oasis back on stage, you're one of the few who can say they experienced rock 'n' roll history in the making. The opening night of their long-awaited comeback tour at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium last week was a momentous occasion for over 60,000 fans, and as expected, the Gallagher brothers delivered a performance that had everyone buzzing. However, while the reunion was a triumph for many, not all aspects of the gig hit the high notes.

For all the electric energy in the air and the deafening cheers of fans, there was one glaring issue that raised eyebrows: the drumming. One fan shared their thoughts on the new drummer Joey Waronker, who replaced Alan White for the tour, saying he simply isn't right for the band. “Not for me, his tempo wasn’t great through the fills (when he did any),” they said. “Champagne Supernova is one of the songs where, as a drummer, you can let your ‘Bonham’ out and it was... meh. Too straight.”

Another fan continued, expressing hope that Waronker would settle in as the tour progressed. “I hope as the tour goes on he settles in a little more and gets a bit more confidence, but right now he’s the weak link.

"I don’t find he has the right feel for Oasis. Too straight. He doesn’t fit at all.” While Joey’s drumming may not have impressed some, the rest of the performance was nothing short of legendary.

From the spine-tingling moment when Liam and Noel reunited arm-in-arm on stage to the heartwarming tributes to those Oasis have lost, the night had its fair share of emotional highlights.

One surprising moment came when boos filled the stadium. Liam, in his classic Mancunian way, tried to engage the crowd with his typical swagger.

“Anyone here from Manchester?” he yelled, prompting a strong reaction from the audience.

But when he followed up with “Anyone here from Burnage?," the crowd’s response was less than favourable, with boos ringing out across the stadium.

Of course, Oasis wouldn’t be Oasis without their undeniable swagger and occasional cheeky moments. But there were also tender tributes, such as the one at the end of Live Forever to Liverpool FC player Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away recently.

The emotional crescendo came when the band played Don’t Look Back In Anger, with Manchester’s symbol, the bee, flying across the video screens as the crowd sang every word. The atmosphere was nothing short of goosebumps-inducing.

Lastly, there was Noel’s tribute to Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs, Oasis’ founding guitarist, who reunited with the band for the first time in 16 years. Noel fittingly called Bonehead “this f*****g uber-legend.”

So, while some might still be reeling from the drumming disappointment, there’s no denying that Oasis’ comeback tour is shaping up to be iconic.

Let’s hope the rhythm section finds its groove as the tour progresses, but for now, the Gallaghers are back, and that’s all that matters to the fans who witnessed it.
