Emmerdale fans are only just realising DI Roberts has very famous wife

Emmerdale fans have been shocked to learn that actress Isobel Middleton, who plays DI Roberts on the show, is married to a real-life soap star. Isobel first appeared on Emmerdale this year as the new detective in the village, arriving to crack the case of Anthony Fox's (played by Nicholas Day) disappearance. Viewers may recall the abusive Anthony was killed off by his daughter Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly), entangling other characters like Caleb (William Ash), Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), and Cain (Jeff Hordley) in the murder scandal.

Initially, DI Roberts arrested Cain for the disappearance, but had to release him without sufficient evidence. However, she has now returned to the village unexpectedly, surprising Caleb especially. Yet, it's her off-screen marriage that's currently making waves among fans. Isobel Middleton is wed to Coronation Street's Jane Hazlegrove, who plays Bernie Winter, reports OK!

The pair got married in 2015 after a relationship spanning over 28 years. Jane gushed about Isobel during an ITV Lorraine show appearance in 2019, saying, "She's sensational, a really beautiful woman. I am very obsessed."

Isobel Middleton, familiar to Emmerdale viewers, has played several roles on the show. She first appeared as Dr Lane in 2014, then as a barrister during Simon McManus's 2018 trial, and most recently as Jean Rawson in 2020. However, Emmerdale isn't Isobel's only soap opera credit. In 2002, she was seen as Sadie Banks in EastEnders on BBC.

Beyond soaps, Isobel has also ventured into film with a role in 2009's Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

In 2022, Isobel made her way to Coronation Street, where she played feminist author Persephone Braxton, adding a literary touch to Roy's Rolls with her book launch.

Fans were stunned to learn of Isobel's off-screen marriage to Jane. In a Coronation Street Facebook fan group, where a photo of the couple was shared, one person wrote, "As if Bernie from Coronation Street is married to the detective in Emmerdale!".

Other fans expressed their surprise with comments like "Wow I didn't know that", and "How sweet! A gorgeous couple."
