Good Morning Britain migrant report sparks fury as Keir Starmer dealt huge blow
Fans of Good Morning Britain were left fuming as the ITV show announced Sir Keir Starmer's latest plans to tackle the migrant crisis. Ed Balls and Susanna Reid explained that The UK's Prime Minister is considering introducing compulsory ID cards in the UK to help tackle the small boats crisis - but fans were not impressed.
Ed shared that there is "clear pressure" for the leading politician to find solutions, as he added: "So, ID cards, once again, back on the agenda. We have been here before." He then passed the report over to Louisa James, who said that Downing Street is "clearly desperate to show that they are doing everything that they can to find solutions". She added that a spokesperson for Starmer said that they are looking for "anything that works". The news correspondent continued: "The latest idea is looking again at digital ID cards. That was very much downplayed very recently when it was raised, but Downing Street has said that the debate has changed, and significantly, people's expectations have changed."
The reporter shared that ministers are now looking at everyone in the country having a "unique ID" which can be used to prove people are in the country legally.
"If all of this sounds a little bit familiar, it's because it is," she added. "The last Labour government, Tony Blair and David Blunkett, wanted to bring in a national ID card, but in the end that was scrapped over concerns about the cost and civil liberties. But some people are saying that those concerns remain."
As well as considering ID cards, the government also shared that they are looking at housing asylum seekers in porter cabins in warehouses and old military bases. Louisa said that it is all a sign that Downing Street is "feeling pressure".
Fans of Good Morning Britain were left raging with the update as they fumed: "Absolutely not". They took to social media, nameley X/Twitter to share their thoughts.
One viewer penned: "Absolutely not. The next step in the ultra-controlled dystopian future they have planned for us."
Another echoed: "He can consider all he likes, we will not comply." A third said: "People in boats don’t even have passports so how will us having ID cards tackle the crisis?"
Someone else complained: "If ID cards are because of the migrant problem, then fix the problem. Waste of money doing this."
