Sky News in ‘watershed moment’ – and it’s not looking good for Donald Trump

Sky News aired a bombshell on its daily Trump 100 podcast – and it’s bad news for the US president. In what was branded a “watershed moment”, economics editor Ed Conway joined hosts James Matthews and Mark Stone to compare Donald Trump to failed UK prime minister Liz Truss, and hinted that if the tables were turned, he could be ousted from power.

Conway explained: “I hesitate slightly to say this, but having reported on it, there are so many echoes of the Truss experience in the UK. I mean it’s different, there’s always differences in economics…”Stone agreed: “There’s differences in politics as well, because with Truss, the UK political system was able to call her out and then stop her.”

Conway admitted: “Whereas that can’t happen here. I remember very vividly on the afternoon of the mini budget [under Truss], just looking at those charts and it was a depressing experience seeing share prices were down, bond deals were up and the currency was down. Those three things together is really what you don’t want because it suggests that people are pulling money out of the country.

“You see that here. It’s amazing to think that you could say that about the US economy. For 50, 60, 70 years or longer, the US dollar has been one of the safe havens. When you’re worried about everything else, you buy US treasuries.

“The fact that people seem to be turning away from this – it is not an emergency at this point but you’re definitely seeing evidence of it. That is a massive watershed moment for the global economy which we are living through right now.”

Listeners were divided in the comments section, with one writing: “Dread to think of the damage if he was listening to her!” while another posted: “He is doing great, America loves him.”

Somebody else said: “Trump, by acting tough, given the results, has made himself ridiculous in the eyes of the world and, above all, unreliable.”
