Hilaria Baldwin has declared that the tragic shooting that occurred on the set of film Rust is 'part of our family's story' in controversial scenes set to air in the family's new reality show.
The Baldwins is a new series that is being broadcast on TLC in the US and will be available to stream on Discovery+ in the UK. In the series, cameras are being allowed inside the home of Hilaria and her husband Alec Baldwin, to get a unique view of the married couple's family life.
They share seven children, ranging in ages from two up to 10 years old. Not only that but they also own eight animals including both cats and dogs, who all live with them in their Manhattan apartment.
Filming for the series took place in the days before the Glengarry Glen Ross actor was due to appear in court charged with involuntary manslaughter.
Those charges came following the death of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust four years ago. Cinematographer Hutchins, 42, was shot on the set in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in October 2021 with a gun that Baldwin was holding.
The 66-year-old pleaded not guilty and always proclaimed he never pulled the trigger on the Colt 45 that fired the live bullet. He was cleared of involuntary manslaughter charges in July last year. According to People, the cameras began rolling on The Baldwins in the weeks before Alec was tried in New Mexico.
In the premiere episode of the series, Hilaria speaks to camera and states that what happened is now part of her 'family's story'. She says: "The last three years has been a significant chunk of my children's lives. Our older ones were much younger (at the time the shooting happened) but have had the awareness because of their age to understand what's going on. The youngest three don't know a life without this."
The footage then cuts to her speaking to her husband in the kitchen of their summer home in East Hampton. In their discussion, they appear to dodge around directly mentioning their fear that Alec faces a spell in prison if he were found guilty of the charges. She tells him: "We're going through some very stressful things and we're trying to parent through it."
He responds by saying: "Our lives were very different before this. Our children have been forced to recognise that, they've been forced to deal with that with us in their own way." This conversation in the episode was preceded by Hilaria telling the audience that the way in which her husband's OCD manifests itself has gotten worse in the lead up to the court date. She also reveals he was diagnosed with PTSD following the incident on the Rust set.
Hilaria tells him: "They've had really unfortunate realisations about what is going on." She then explains to the camera: "Things will forever be different. Halyna lost her life in the most unthinkable tragedy. A son lost his mom. We are going to feel and carry this pain forever. This will be a part of our family's story."
The Baldwins is streaming weekly on Discovery+.
