Cleanest country in the world is also one of Europe’s best holiday spots

If you're seeking a holiday destination that's not overrun with tourists, where the air is clean and the streets are devoid of litter, then this European gem, named the cleanest country globally, is your perfect choice. According to The Air We Breathe report by the World Population Review, Estonia boasts the cleanest air and lowest emissions.
The Environmental Performance Index (EPI), which considers factors such as greenhouse emissions, CO2, achievements on carbon-negative status, methane, implementation of environmental policies, and the expansion of forests, renewable energy sources, and rainforests, ranks Estonia at the top. The study found Estonia to have the cleanest air and the highest global EPI, at 75.3. Other European nations featured in this list include Luxembourg (75), Germany (74.6), Finland (73.7), United Kingdom (72.7), Sweden (70.5), Norway (70), Austria (69), Switzerland (68), and Denmark (67.9).
Indeed, since 2020, Estonia, United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Luxembourg, Austria, Norway, and Switzerland have consistently held the top spots on the list of the world's cleanest countries.
If you're planning a trip to Estonia, don't miss its capital, Tallinn.
The entire city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997 due to its remarkably preserved 13th-century Old Town, complete with numerous spires and original buildings.
Tallinn's top attractions include the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Kadriorg Art Museum, and Kadriorg Park.
The Old Town is divided into two distinct areas: the Upper Town, or Toompea, which houses the Estonian government in the charming medieval pink Stenbock House and the 800 year old Toompea Castle, and the Lower Town.
For those planning a visit, Pikk Hermann Tower, part of Toompea Castle and standing 150ft above sea level, is a must-see.
The views are simply breathtaking, and if they don't leave you breathless, the 215 steps to the top certainly will.
If you're keen to explore this stunning city for yourself, Skyscanner currently offers flights from London to Estonia in March for a mere £88 return.
