I visited a spectacular town with mountain views and lake tours — I'd definitely go back

It was a Thursday evening when I arrived at Windermere in the Lake District—and what a pretty sight it was. Windermere is home to the largest lake in Cumbria's Lake District National Park, so taking a boat tour was a must.
There are a few options when it comes to selecting a boat tour, but I went for the last Island Blue Cruise (£14.20) of the day. Before hopping onto the 45-minute lake tour, I grabbed some fish and chips from Driftwood and a pint of beer to take onboard. Sitting on the open-top boat, I partially listened in to the (rather robotic-sounding) audio tour, sipped on my refreshing beverage, took some bites of my fish and chips and enjoyed the views in the sunshine.
The scenery was rather spectacular. There was the backdrop of grassy mountainous landscapes, beautiful boats, shimmering water and grand houses.
Afterwards, you could have more tipples while looking out at the lake view and browse a few homeware shops.
While I had already had my dinner on the boat, there were plenty of alfresco eateries where I could soak up the last moments of the sun.
Fortunately, for me, my Airbnb was walking distance from where I had taken the boat tour.
Fast-forward to the next morning, now was my time to enjoy Windermere for all that it had to offer during the day.
Starting off with a leisurely breakfast at Betty Fluffs Emporium, I had a bacon and egg sandwich on toasted bread with a latte.
Then there was a mixture of boutique, independent and chain shops to peruse — and, if I had a dog with me, a lovely long walk would have been on the cards.
My verdictWindermere is a dog-friendly pit stop with plenty of nearby walks to keep owners and their pooches in good spirits.
Fans of water activities will also enjoy the staycation spot for canoeing, paddle boarding, sailing, and boat tours.
There is beautiful scenery for romantic dwellers, and if you head there for a long weekend, there are late-night bar openings for a more boozy night.
I visited Windermere on a whim, and it's a beautiful location that I encourage others to visit.
As for my next adventure, another spot in the Lake District has definitely piqued my interest.
