The beautiful seaside village that's the 'Greece of the UK' and costs £10 to enter

A hidden gem on the North Devon coast is capturing hearts and views online, with one visitor declaring it “like stepping back in time”, and others comparing it to the whitewashed villages of the Greek islands.
Clovelly is a privately owned village perched on a steep hillside overlooking the Atlantic. In a TikTok by @storky_adventures, she described the picturesque town as “the prettiest village in North Devon UK,” praising its cobbled streets, car-free charm, and sweeping ocean views.
“I think I might have just found one of the most beautiful spots in the UK,” she told her followers. “It was like stepping back in time in this car-free village, walking down the steep cobble streets surrounded by charming cottages and picturesque views in this historic fishing town. I cannot believe this is in Devon!”
With its narrow, flower-lined lanes, whitewashed houses, and turquoise sea stretching below, Clovelly has drawn comparisons to the Greek islands, but with a distinctly British twist, including traditional cream teas and donkey sightings.
The village, once a bustling fishing port, remains frozen in time. Cars are not permitted beyond the visitor centre, and goods are still transported by hand sledges or donkeys, as they have been for centuries.
People have to pay to enter. The standard admission charge of £9.90 for adults and £5.75 for children 7-16 includes a free return visit within 7 days. A £26 family pass is also available.
The steep incline makes for a tough climb, but visitors say the reward is worth the effort.
“You do have to pay to enter the village,” she explained, “as it’s a privately owned estate, but parking is included. There seems to be a handful of holiday cottages, which I wouldn’t mind checking out. I want to go back ASAP!”
Visitors are treated not only to sweeping sea views and quaint architecture, but also to the unique heritage of Clovelly, which has been carefully preserved by the owning estate.
The town features a fishing museum, harbour, and traditional inns, and is known for its tranquil, almost timeless atmosphere.
Clovelly offers UK staycationers looking for an alternative to international travel, and with its Mediterranean feel and English soul, it may just be the ultimate coastal escape.
