Infanta Sofia: Spanish princess studies at a university in Berlin

The pretty, self-confident young woman has many fans. Social media is full of pictures and videos of Sofia of Spain . She is usually seen with her sister, Princess Leonor , who is two years older and is destined to one day sit on the throne. While the latter already has to attend all official appointments in the manner of a future Spanish queen, Sofia, as the second-born infanta, appears somewhat more relaxed, youthful, fashionable, and free.
Now, according to media reports, Sofía is set to come from Spain to Berlin. Starting in the fall, she will study Political Science and International Relations at the international Forward College . The first year will take place in Lisbon, the second in Paris, and the third year, including her graduation, in Berlin.
"Make your studies a journey" is the motto of the private European university affiliated with the London School of Economics, founded in 2021. Its Berlin campus is located at Lohmühlenstraße 65 in Treptow-Köpenick, not far from the "popular Kreuzberg district, known for its secondhand shops, street art, and cool cafes," as Forward College advertises.
Empathy, critical thinking and responsible leadershipThere, they are proud that "a member of European aristocracy has chosen an educational model" that teaches skills such as "empathy, critical thinking, and responsible leadership." Observing the demeanor of Leonor and Sofía—born in 2005 and 2007, respectively—it's clear that they were raised by the Spanish royal couple, Felipe VI and Letizia, with love and empathy, but also with a strict eye on their responsibilities.
This is also the only chance for a royal family that has become a target of scrutiny. Juan Carlos I , the grandfather of Leonor and Sofía, played a major role in Spain's transition from the Franco dictatorship to democracy, but was forced to resign in 2014 due to extramarital affairs, an elephant hunt in Africa, and a bribery scandal.
Leonor and Sofía attended a private school in Madrid. Both received their International Baccalaureate from a college in Wales – Sofía not until May 2025. But while Leonor is completing three years of military training because, as Queen, she will also be Commander-in-Chief, Sofia is apparently drawn to the outdoors to get to know new places and people. What role she will assume in the royal family is not yet clear.
