Aemet warns of the arrival of strong storms to Spain

Aemet warns of the arrival of strong storms to Spain

Summer continues in Spain after a few scorching weeks across much of the country. This season is dominated by sunshine and heat, but there are also periods of rain .

Thus, rain and storms are expected again this week in some areas. This is precisely what the Aemet (Meteorological Agency) warns about. In its forecast, the State Meteorological Agency indicates that from Wednesday to Friday there will be "precipitation in the north of the peninsula," while "in the east of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, it could be heavy and accompanied by storms."

Aemet warns of new rains

This Wednesday, Aemet explained in its forecast that these showers and storms could be "strong, even locally very strong" in areas of Catalonia, the Pyrenees, the northern Valencian Community , and the eastern edge of the Iberian system.

This is due to the approach of an Atlantic low, which will cause instability in the north of the peninsula, with overcast skies in the north and northeast. In contrast to the heavy rainfall in the previous areas, light rainfall will occur in Galicia and the Cantabrian region. In other regions of the northeast and far east of the peninsula, some precipitation may also occur.

However, maximum temperatures will rise in the Mediterranean regions and fall elsewhere, most markedly in the northern half of the peninsula, including significantly in the north-central regions. No changes are expected in the Canary Islands. In parts of the Guadalquivir Valley, temperatures will reach 36 degrees, as will the southeastern inland regions. Highs above 30 degrees will be seen in several provinces.

On Thursday, July 24, heavy to very heavy showers and thunderstorms will move to the Balearic Islands , the eastern coast, and the southeastern interior of the peninsula. Hail is not ruled out. The weather will be more stable across the rest of the peninsula, with some cloudy periods. In the Canary Islands, light rainfall is possible in the northern part of the islands.

Maximum temperatures will tend to rise in the far west of the peninsula, remaining unchanged in the Canary Islands and falling elsewhere. Significant drops will be seen in the east, southeast, and the Balearic Islands. However, in the low-pressure areas of the southwest, we will continue to see temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures may rise in the southwest and fall in the northeast and the Balearic Islands, with little change elsewhere, although temperatures will not fall below 20 degrees Celsius in the Mediterranean region.

🗺️ The passage of an Atlantic trough will cause a significant drop in temperatures 🌡️. In the Mediterranean area, large areas of the east and northern half of the peninsula will notice the drop 📉. They will be the most significant anomalies in Europe, a rather anomalous situation in the straight line… pic.twitter.com/rXtS9zzwWz

By the end of the week, the low-pressure system causing the instability is expected to begin moving away toward the Mediterranean, but "probably transitioning to a low pressure zone." By the weekend, sunny conditions are expected, with temperatures returning to normal levels for the season across the country.
