The firefighting effort was intense, involving the collaboration of teams and resources from several islands, including the EIRIF La Gomera and EIRIF La Palma, along with an operations coordinator. Eight aircraft were involved: two helicopters from the Island Council, two from the Ministry, three from the Canary Islands Government, and an AirTractor cargo aircraft on the ground. Three high-mobility tactical vehicles (VAMTAC) and two fire engines from the Brifor operation joined the extinguishing efforts, in addition to a crew from the Tenerife Firefighters Consortium, two volunteer firefighter teams, Civil Guard personnel, and local police officers.
The Air Tractor AT-802 , a ground-based cargo aircraft based in La Gomera, specializes in airdropping water and retardant and can drop up to 3,100 liters per operation. It is not a seaplane, as it does not refuel at reservoirs or coasts, but rather operates from airfields, allowing for rapid and precise response in hard-to-reach areas.
The fire broke out this afternoon in "complicated" weather conditions , with temperatures around 36 degrees, although with no wind, while the extreme risk of forest fires and the pre-alert for high temperatures are in effect, with highs of up to 37 degrees in Gran Canaria and 34 degrees in the western islands.
The president of the Canary Islands government, Fernando Clavijo, has announced via his profile on the social network X that emergency and civil protection teams are on the ground "trying to control the spread of an outbreak in Santiago del Teide and cause as little damage as possible." We remind the local population to "remind them to pay attention to official sources and follow the instructions of the security forces deployed."
