Musical exorcism: Catholics will fast for 40 days following Marilyn Manson's concert in SLP.

Potosí Catholics have announced they will fast for 40 days in protest of Marilyn Manson's concert at the San Luis Potosí National Fair (Fenapo, for its acronym, mysteriously different from "pipope").

After it was confirmed that the controversial singer would perform on August 10, a group of highly motivated believers—and apparently with plenty of free time—began a spiritual crusade to prevent what they consider "a musical invasion of dark energies with smudged eyeliner."

The outrage is nothing new. Days earlier, the state's archbishop had asked the governor to cancel the performance of the singer of "The Beautiful People." The request was rejected, possibly because even the governor didn't know who Manson was and thought he was a local cumbia band.

Faced with the official refusal, the Catholic community has decided to escalate its protests and opt for a prolonged fast, hoping that the sacrifice will stop both the concert and the Gothic makeup.

Although the protest was widely publicized on social media, some protesters have been spotted at nearby cafes ordering low-key smoothies , raising concerns about the authenticity and duration of the fast.

So far, the authorities have not issued any statement regarding a possible cancellation, nor whether they will provide some pieces of bread to the fasters in case they faint while demonstrating "à la Gandhi but with Wi-Fi."

For his part, Marilyn Manson has not responded, although it is rumored that he plans to go on stage dressed as Saint Michael the Archangel, just to confuse people.
