Amazon stops offering this app to Android users starting today.

The Amazon Appstore mobile app no longer works on Android devices . The e-commerce site announced at the end of February that it would no longer support the Google Play Store alternative starting August 20, 2025, in order to focus its efforts on the Appstore experience on Fire TV devices and Fire tablets.

With the closure of this platform, users can no longer download or update applications through the Amazon AppStore on Android phones or tablets. However, as the company indicates on its official website , the app is still available on Fire TV and Fire tablets as it is the default app store.

This announcement also means that apps downloaded from the store can continue to work, although Amazon warns that it cannot guarantee their proper functioning as they will not receive future updates. Therefore, this may cause some apps to lose compatibility with new Android versions or lose access to their official servers.

And beyond this decision, Amazon has decided to discontinue the Amazon Coins program as of August 20th, considering that it is no longer available for purchase. In case you're not sure what we're talking about, Amazon Coins are used to make purchases in certain apps and in-app purchases on the Amazon Appstore. Starting this Wednesday, the e-commerce site will begin refunding purchased coins and any remaining coins in the account.

Another Amazon service has been down since August.

Amazon has also shut down its free Freevee app for watching movies and TV shows . Since August, users have had to turn to Prime Video to enjoy its extensive library of original titles, considering that this decision was first announced in November of last year and reiterated in early July.

This ruling comes because Amazon is leaning toward Prime Video , as it offers a simpler viewing experience and is a hybrid destination for both Prime members and non-members.

Recall that Freevee was launched in June 2022 as a result of the IMDbTV rebranding, offering a wide catalog of original titles consisting of movies and series —now available on Prime Video under the Freevee label— and is not available in Spain .
