Nintendo reveals its master plan to succeed beyond Switch 2

Nintendo isn't resting on its laurels. Following the overwhelming success of the Nintendo Switch 2 , which has already surpassed 10 million units sold , the Japanese company has unveiled a three-pillar business strategy to ensure its leadership beyond hardware.
In his financial report for the first half of fiscal year 2025 (April to September), Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa shared the “master plan” that will mark the company’s new era: strengthening its development studios, expanding into other entertainment media, and increasing the user base of Nintendo Accounts .
The first point of the plan focuses on strengthening internal video game development . Nintendo will invest in acquiring new studios , building a second development facility in Kyoto, and expanding its creative teams.
This strategy aims to maintain the quality and innovation that distinguishes franchises like The Legend of Zelda , Super Mario , and Pokémon , ensuring that the future Switch 2 catalog continues to stand out from PlayStation and Xbox.
Furukawa emphasizes that creativity is the soul of Nintendo , and therefore the growth of internal talent is essential to maintain its unique identity in an increasingly competitive industry.
The second point of the plan reinforces the company's multimedia vision. The worldwide success of Super Mario Bros.: The Movie demonstrated that Nintendo's intellectual properties (IP) have enormous potential in other formats.
Having learned this lesson, the company will allocate funds to new film productions and entertainment projects , opening the door to possible adaptations of The Legend of Zelda , Metroid or Kirby .
Nintendo seeks to become a total entertainment ecosystem , capable of connecting with audiences beyond traditional video games and competing directly with giants like Disney or Sony Pictures.
The third pillar of the strategy focuses on building a stronger digital network through Nintendo Accounts . The company aims to strengthen its direct relationship with players, offering an integrated experience that connects its consoles, mobile platforms, and online services.
This move will allow Nintendo to expand its global community , boost digital commerce, and strengthen its user-centric business model.
With over 10 million consoles sold in six months , the Switch 2 has surpassed its predecessor's debut. Titles like Mario Kart: World , Donkey Kong: Bananza , and Pokémon Legends: AZ are driving its growth, while new installments of Kirby and Hyrule Warriors are expanding its catalog.
Nintendo proves that its success is no accident: behind every innovation there is a long-term strategy, a balance between nostalgia, technology and a vision for the future.
