Sony opens applications for 2026 photography and film competitions

Colombia, July 2025 – Sony announced the opening of free entries for its 2026 international photography and short film competitions.
These are the Sony World Photography Awards (SWPA) and the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards (SFFA), which stand out for their global reach and for providing professional opportunities to emerging and established talent. The call is now open and is aimed at photographers and filmmakers from around the world, with a special emphasis on Latin America.
Photography Contests: SWPA 2026 The Sony World Photography Awards have celebrated the best of contemporary photography since 2007. Organized by the World Photography Organization, the awards consist of four main competitions:
- Professional Competence: recognizes series of 5 to 10 images in ten categories.
- Open Competition: awards individual images in ten categories.
- Youth Competition: aimed at talents up to 19 years old.
- Student Competition: aimed at photography students from accredited institutions.
Additionally, Latin American photographers participating in the Professional Competition are eligible for the Latin America Professional Award, which recognizes the best work in the region.
Registration is free, and entries are evaluated anonymously by a panel of industry experts. All information on categories, closing dates, and prizes can be found at worldphoto.org.
Film Competitions: SFFA 2026 The fourth annual Sony Future Filmmaker Awards recognize short film creators in four categories:
- Fiction: original stories between 5 and 20 minutes.
- Non-fiction: documentary or factual pieces of equal length.
- Animation: short films from 2 to 20 minutes in any technique.
- Student: For film students from registered institutions, with works between 5 and 20 minutes in any genre.
The finalists will travel to Los Angeles from June 8-11, 2026, to participate in a professional program at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City. The event includes workshops, masterclasses, and screenings, culminating in an awards ceremony on June 11.
