July is a very important month for Colombia because the new Comprehensive Social Protection System for the Elderly , established by Law 2381 of 2024, comes into effect. However, those in the Transition Regime have their closing date at the end of June. What should they keep in mind?
According to official information, June 30th is a key date for those enrolled in the Pension Transition Scheme in Colombia and wishing to benefit from the Opportunity to Transfer between private funds and Colpensiones. By the last day of the month, they must meet the following requirements:
▪️Women: be 47 years of age or older and have contributed at least 750 weeks.

These conditions must be met or proven in order to be eligible for the transfer between pension plans, which will be open until July 16, 2026. Furthermore, those who have already reached pension age (57 for women, 62 for men) can also take advantage of this opportunity.
Furthermore, it is essential to review and correct your employment history before this date and complete the so-called "double consultation," a mandatory process to receive impartial information about the conditions and benefits of each system before deciding to transfer.

How is “Double Counseling” performed?This is a mandatory process for those wishing to transfer between the public pension system, Colpensiones , and private pension funds in Colombia, especially for people in the Transition Regime, with 750 or more weeks of contributions for women, and 900 or more for men. The following steps must then be followed:
1. The affiliate must contact both Colpensiones and the private fund to which they are affiliated or want to transfer.
2. Attend two advisory sessions, one with each entity, where personalized analyses are presented with pension projections, benefits, requirements, and old-age protection mechanisms.
3. Consultations can be in person or virtual, at no cost to the member.
4. With the information received, the member makes an informed decision about whether or not to change regime.
5. If you decide to relocate, you must formalize the transfer request before the deadline (July 16, 2026 for the Transitional Regime).
