Taxes: Tax refunds arrive this Friday, find out if you are affected

In the middle of summer , this is news that will do you good for your morale. Millions of you will, in fact, receive a tax transfer in just a few days.
After filing your income tax return in the spring, you should have read your "income tax return situation notice" (Asdir).
This can tell you three scenarios: you have nothing to pay, you have an outstanding balance to pay or you were overcharged last year.
In the latter case, you will receive a refund from the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFiP).
What will the payment dates be? Are there any steps to take? RMC Conso gives you the lowdown.
There are many reasons why the tax authorities must reimburse you: the arrival of a child, marriage, a decrease in income and a failure to adjust the rate or, on the contrary, an increase in income and an overestimation of the rate, or even tax credits .
If these events were declared too late, they may not have been taken into account in time by the tax authorities and may have resulted in an overpayment.
A first wave of tax refunds was made last week, on Friday, July 25. A second is expected this Friday, August 1, according to the Service-Public.fr website .
A double payment schedule was implemented to better manage the flow. In fact, between 10 and 16 million households receive a refund each year.
And the sums involved are significant. According to information from the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFiP) communicated to Le Parisien , this year, 13.2 million tax households will benefit from a refund of an average amount of 1,017 euros, compared to 908 euros for 16 million French people in 2024.
These dates also coincide with the posting of tax notices . These documents will arrive in your personal space between these two dates. If you continue to receive a paper notice, it will arrive between July 24 and August 28, 2025.
To receive your refund, you don't need to take any action. It's automatic.
The transfer will be made directly to the bank account you provided to the DGFiP. It will be labeled "REMB IMPOT REVENUS" and will come from "DGFIP FINANCES PUBLIQUES".
If your bank details are not known to the tax authorities and you have not updated them before the end of June, a check will be sent to your home by mail.
Conversely, in the event of an outstanding tax balance to be paid, a single deduction will be made on September 25, 2025, if the amount to be reimbursed is less than 300 euros.
If the amount is greater than 300 euros, the payment will be spread over four installments: September 25, October 27, November 27 and December 29, 2025.
The balance will be debited from the bank account you provided to the DGFiP. You have until September 14th inclusive to update your bank details.
According to figures from the Directorate General of Public Finances, in 2025, 13.1 million tax households will have an average tax liability of €1,900, compared to €2,127 for 9.8 million taxpayers last year. This is mainly due to the 2.8% increase in private-sector salaries, Le Parisien reports.
Whether for a refund or a tax levy, you can go to your Personal area on impots.gouv.fr in the "Documents" tab to find out the exact amount.
