Although little-known to the general public, the Interprofessional Dairy Analysis Laboratory (LIAL) is a key player in the dairy industry. Covering the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Grand Est regions, it monitors the quality and safety of milk, helping producers deliver healthy, standards-compliant products.

In 1969, the Godefroy Law imposed a system for milk to be paid for based on its composition and quality. Since then, interprofessional laboratories recognized by the public authorities, located throughout France, analyze the milk supplied by farmers to processing plants, according to precise and standardized technical methods and procedures defined by the CNIEL (National Interprofessional Center for the Dairy Economy).
