You may be entitled to social assistance without knowing it: how to check in just a few clicks?

"And even with well-known aid. For example, 27% do not apply for their activity bonus. That's huge," exclaims Séverine Burel, publication director of the website aide-sociale.fr .

Why? "People think they're not eligible," says Séverine Burel as the first reason. She points out that social assistance and minimum social benefits should not be confused. The former have a much broader scope than the latter.

The specialist also believes that there is a lack of awareness about the aid provided by the state. "We see daily that there is a real need for information," she notes. "Depending on the need and the difficulties you encounter, you have to contact a different organization. It's often finding the right person to talk to that is difficult."

She cites the 50 million annual visitors to this site, founded in 2012 with the aim of making social assistance more accessible to beneficiaries. Information that can range from housing benefits to assistance with purchasing an electric bike.

The site also attempts to normalize these requests: "There's still a stigma" against people who receive assistance, assures Séverine Burel. This could explain why some don't assert their rights. "We need to overcome this feeling and seek help," she urges.
