"Fantastic Four: First Class" triumphs at the US box office with a $57 million debut

"Fantastic Four: First Class" triumphs at the US box office with a $57 million debut

The new attempt (the third) to bring The Fantastic Four to the big screen is working. The new chapter in the Marvel universe, First Class, directed by Matt Shakman, grossed a whopping $57 million on its opening day alone, marking the second best opening of the year, just behind the surprising success of Minecraft: The Movie .

The film, which also screened in IMAX and premium theaters, outsold Superman , which opened just two weeks ago. Bolstered by positive reviews and a positive reception from audiences (CinemaScore gives it an "A-"), as Variety reports, the Marvel reboot also marks the best start for a Marvel Cinematic Universe film since 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine .

With a revamped cast—Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach—and a storyline unrelated to previous Marvel films, Fantastic Four: First Class promises to be a refreshing entry point for new audiences. The massive $200 million budget means a long road to box office success is needed, but the first step was certainly the right one.
