Tajani: "Community competence, not national competence"
ROME (ITALPRESS) – Regarding tariffs, "I would like to remind you that this is a matter for the EU, not a national level. We can develop trade policy and decide which products to export, but the rules are the result of agreements between the EU and the US. We have a trade strategy to strengthen our presence in markets where we are already strong—I'm thinking of Mexico, Canada, India, Japan, Indonesia. There are many countries where we can play a leading role." This was stated by Antonio Tajani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the sidelines of the presentation of the new Enel Foundation Scientific Committee. "Our relationship with the US," he added, "is not tied to a president or a US political choice. We are two sides of the West; we have a centuries-old bond that unites the EU and the US, and it's impossible to replace them, given that they are our main ally outside the EU. This applies to Italy, but it also applies to the entire EU." "Then there are other countries that are interlocutors, but there's no possibility of replacing the US with China; it's a hypothetical period of unreality. The Chinese market is interesting, but it's something else entirely," he adds. -photo Ipa Agency –
