The flames driven by the mistral wind
Fears are mounting in Sardinia over the fires threatening the island. The most serious situation is occurring at Punta Molentis, in Villasimius, with flames reaching right up to the beach . Escape routes for swimmers have been almost completely blocked by the flames, and evacuations by sea are also underway, although the intervention is being hampered by the strong mistral wind that has been battering southern Sardinia for several hours.
