Violence at Caritas, brawl at dinner time: a knife also appears

San Benedetto (Ascoli), May 12, 2025 – A high-tension evening at the Caritas of San Benedetto, in the Ponterotto area. On Saturday, around 9:30 p.m., a fight broke out between occasional guests of the reception facility, all foreigners, during which two people were injured by knife attacks , and only by a miracle did something irreparable not happen, as the blade grazed the jugular of one of the contenders. The perpetrators are all Maghrebians and three of them are reportedly under arrest by the Carabinieri of San Benedetto on charges of brawling and personal injury. The two injured are being held in the hospital of San Benedetto. The Carabinieri are still working to reconstruct the dynamics of what happened.

The crews of Potes-118 intervened on the spot and transported the two injured to the hospital in San Benedetto. One was more seriously injured, the one wounded in the neck with a stab wound and the other who had head injuries, while the third compatriot was unharmed but, in any case, would be involved in the incident. The arrested would be between 30 and 60 years old. According to sources close to Caritas, the people involved in the brawl were not authorized to be in the facility.

It is worth remembering that the Caritas of San Benedetto has 3 shelters: one in the Ponterotto headquarters with 15 places (12 men and 3 women), one in Centobuchi with 7 places and the other in via Foglia in Porto d'Ascoli with another 7 places. Furthermore, in the central headquarters of the Caritas, Ponterotto area, there are six housing modules of the 'Casa di Lazzaro' project that house 12 people, in addition to another 6 places at the Multipurpose Center, also inside the structure. It happens that homeless people from outside manage to enter the structure causing disturbances and that is what is said to have happened on Saturday evening. Now the conditions of the patients hospitalized do not seem to cause particular concern, but they are both guarded by the police. These are events that risk increasing tension in the neighborhood, already very high after the events of August 2023 when several cases of a certain gravity were recorded related to fights and injuries between guests of the structure. There were scuffles during which a machete even appeared, injuring a twenty-eight-year-old. The residents asked the Caritas leaders to provide private security or even to move the structure to another area. Something will have to be done.
