Nautical, the Nautical License Registry has been introduced: now let's focus on complete digitalization

With the publication in the Official Journal of the Decree of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, in concert with those of the Interior and Public Administration 67 of 11 March 2025, the National Registry of Nautical Licenses is finally regulated. Unasca, we read in a note, welcomes with satisfaction the entry into force of this provision, which, says the president Andrea Vannucchi 'arises, on the initiative of our Association, with the acceptance of an Order of the Day on the subject, during the approval process of Law 167/2015, delegating the Government to reform the Recreational Boating Code (Legislative Decree 171/2005). Delegation then implemented with Legislative Decree 229/17 which introduced into the Recreational Boating Code itself article 39-bis for the establishment of the Registry. In fact, Unasca, already from that stage, has been actively engaged in urging the political and institutional world so that the birth of the Registry could be transformed into a modern, efficient and useful tool at the service not only of the Public Administration but also of operators and citizens.
Decree 67 provides for a progressive population of the archive, that is, connected to the activities of renewal or duplication of nautical licenses, delegated to the Coast Guard and Motor Vehicles. A method that will require several years, even a decade, to complete the entire database. But, the president continues, "we hope that all related procedures can be computerized, opening access to nautical schools and transport consultancy companies, similarly to what has been happening for some time in the road sector with the Automobile Portal, bringing concrete savings in terms of human resources and processing times, to the benefit of the Administration and Users".
Finally, concludes Vannucchi "we trust in the introduction of the card format of the nautical license, as has already happened for the French ones since October 2024 and as it is for our driving licenses: a further step forward in line with international standards and the needs of modernization of the nautical system". Unasca will continue to work with a constructive spirit to promote innovation and simplification in the nautical world, in the interest of operators, safety and pleasure boaters.
