The best operators in the field of consumer credit

In a context of decreasing purchasing power of families, it is not surprising that Italians are increasingly resorting to consumer credit . However, choosing the best bank or financial institution is not an easy task. Also because in recent years, more “technological” solutions have also arrived on the market, such as Buy now pay later (Bnpl).

To help consumers who need to orient themselves, the tenth edition of the report by the German Institute for Quality and Finance (ITQF) dedicated to the best operators in the field of consumer credit has arrived. The ITQF experts have carried out an in-depth analysis that has taken into consideration aspects such as transparency , speed of delivery , quality of service and convenience . And to do so, they have asked directly those who had already used the services of a certain bank or a certain financial institution in order to have a real picture and not simply based on the documentation of the offer.

In detail, the survey was conducted using a representative survey of the entire Italian population in the past month of April 2025 with the Cawi method (Computer assisted web interview), in cooperation with the ServiceValue research institute in Cologne. Questions were asked on various aspects such as product offering, customer service, value for money, salary-backed loans, communication with customers, digitalization and innovation. Each aspect, which Itqf calls "dimension" , is in turn divided into sub-categories. In total, 40 questions were asked to each interviewee.

By aggregating the scores assigned to the banks/financial companies for the different dimensions analyzed, the final judgment of customer satisfaction was calculated. The credit institutions that achieved a score above the market average were assigned the judgment “Top” . The judgment “Excellent” instead went to the institutions that were assigned a score higher than the average of the category.

Of the nine banks analyzed by Itqf, three obtained the “Excellent” seal. These are Bnl , Intesa Sanpaolo and Unicredit . Three others, Mediobanca , Banco Bpm and Ing , obtained the “Top” rating.

In the field of financial companies - eight were analyzed - the performances of Findomestic , Prestititalia and Compass Banca stand out (all three with the rating of "Excellent"). Cofidis is the only one that was awarded the rating of "Top" . Finally, regarding the 12 Buy now pay later operators, the German institute for quality and finance has identified four excellences ( "Excellent" ), Paypal , Klarna , Scalapay and Tinaba (with Banca Profilo), and two "Top" operators: Satispay and Revolut .
