A protest by St workers against the industrial plan presented by managers
Agrate (Monza) – The decision was in the air and now it's official: a strike at St on May 21 with a picket in front of the company, in Agrate. And a picket outside the Region on Friday, during the meeting organized by the Development Councilor, Guido Guidesi, which will be attended by the Minister of Enterprise, Adolfo Urso, to obtain from the top "corrections to the industrial plan" that must deal with the "absolute opposition" of the Pirellone. A clear message, as for the metalworkers it is clear instead "the start of the project, the cuts to personnel, which the managers had committed to review".
Thus the workers' representatives after the management's communication on the failure to stabilize fixed-term contracts, "the first 97 to be dropped according to management's plans". A situation that is becoming increasingly tense, the workers will demonstrate all their discomfort even under the Pirellone, "we will be on stand-by to make our voices heard". And at the table they will deliver a document that they are writing in these hours. A letter to express all their opposition to the redundancies announced in Brianza, "at least 800" and their fears about the future for the site in via Olivetti.
It is on this point that a game is being played that first of all concerns the 5,300 employees of the multinational semiconductor company in the city, but also "the related industries, which include at least as many - says Pietro Occhiuto, secretary of Fiom Cgil Brianza -. We are increasingly worried, we understand that the machinery for 8 mm is leaving Agrate, destined for France. A very serious fact, if confirmed, given the formal commitment to review the plan".
Politics is also moving, yesterday at the Pirellone a discussion of a motion was scheduled precisely on the role of the Brianza plant in the Group. Debate postponed at the request of Guidesi who committed to reporting updates to the Council, after the table of May 16. The confrontation has been set for the 27th. "Our goal - explains the regional Democratic councilor Gigi Ponti, first signatory - is to support the fair requests of the union and at the same time lead a common battle for the protection of workers' rights and for the development of a strategic sector for Lombardy such as microelectronics, calling the company to its commitment from an economic and social point of view in front of the entrepreneurial and territorial fabric".
