Summer sales: here's how much each Lombard will spend on average (and what's behind this number)

Jul 5, 2025

The sales season opens today and for the next sixty days. An opportunity especially for fashion
MILAN – Lombards will spend half a billion on the summer sales . The estimate is by Confcommercio Lombardia and Federazione Moda Italia based on national forecasts developed by the Confcommercio Imprese per l'Italia research office, which calculate a total national expenditure of 3.3 billion . The end-of-season discounts will begin today and will continue for the next sixty days . “The sales,” says Carlo Massoletti, deputy vice president of Confcommercio Lombardia, “have two allies: digital, not to be understood as a substitute for the physical store, the relationship and the experience, but as a promotional booster, and the tourist flows that affect Lombardy.”
The estimates are in line with those of 2023 (last year they were not calculated) in absolute terms. But the difference is made by inflation: +1.4% in the last year. With the same budget, in practice, purchase volumes are destined to decrease. According to estimates by the Confcommercio Research Office, this year each family will spend an average of 203 euros on the purchase of discounted items, equal to 92 euros per capita . A figure that varies depending on the territory.
Confcommercio Bergamo 's local forecasts are slightly above the national average, with a budget of 219.50 euros per family (205 euros last year), a per capita average of 93 euros (90 euros the previous figure), for a total value of almost 60 million euros (two more) . The Brescia section's research office forecasts 73 million, two more than the last projection. The estimate - explains Confcommercio - was calculated considering the percentage of resident families who, according to forecasts, will make purchases (processed on Istat data starting from residents) and the average per capita spending according to the trend of recent years. According to the Confesercenti-Ipsos survey, six out of ten have planned purchases during the sales and a fifth will do so on the first weekend.
In the next sixty days in Milan, a per capita expenditure of over 100 euros is expected, with an average receipt per family that will easily exceed 300 euros : the expected turnover will be worth about a third of the regional total. On the Lario , also thanks to the arrival of foreign tourists with high spending power, purchases of 90 million are estimated between the Lecco and Como shores of the lake. Half in Varese, between the capital and the most famous locations of Lake Maggiore and Lake Ceresio . In Valtellina, most of the business will be concentrated between Morbegno , Sondrio and especially Livigno : the sales could move purchases of up to 10 million. In the Cremona area the forecast is 21 million, 30 in Pavia.
