Union freedoms at the bank: 400 regional coordinators arrive at Intesa Sanpaolo.
Intesa Sanpaolo is leading the way in terms of regional representatives, with a new agreement on industrial relations that follows the agreement reached in recent months with ABI on trade union freedoms. The country's largest bank has signed a new industrial relations protocol with Fabi, First, Fisac, Uilca, and Unisin, which will be valid until December 31, 2029, and includes 400 regional coordinators.
In line with the national definition, significant emphasis will be placed on territoriality, in this historical phase in which the number of branches is being rationalized. The Intesa agreement, in particular, defines the criteria for allocating paid hours to trade union organizations, based on three pillars: representativeness brackets, percentage of representation, and local presence.
In practice, the 400 territorial coordinators will be appointed on a regional basis (20 regions) plus two central offices (Turin/Moncalieri and Milan/Assago/Sesto San Giovanni), for a total of 22 territorial areas. The protocol also recognizes the full compatibility of territorial union representatives with the new structure and introduces new procedures for territorial coordinators' participation in quarterly company management meetings. The number of worker safety representatives will remain unchanged, adjusting their territorial scope to that of the coordinators.
For Paolo Citterio of Fabi, this is "a significant recognition for Fabi, both in terms of strategic leadership and essential resources. These elements are essential to continue and further strengthen the union's commitment within the group, ensuring the effectiveness of its future initiatives for the benefit of all our members." The agreement enhances the role of the union representative, confirming a structured, constructive, and participatory dialogue based on equal dignity between the unions, recognition of roles, and the value of proposals. Simona Ortolani, Secretary of Uilca Gruppo Intesa Sanpaolo, adds that "the conditions for union action are adequate to address the digital transformation process already underway within the Group. The union's role at the negotiating table and its presence in the local communities will be central to addressing new challenges and finding the right protections for workers, who are called upon to undertake increasingly extraordinary tasks. This Protocol recognizes the importance of social dialogue and confirms a valuable tradition of Industrial Relations."
